What does someone, who thinks his dad is already dead, do when he gets a call that his dad has just passed away and left him a ranch? Ray Justice takes time off his job to investigate, of course. And when he gets to the truth it's nice to have a friend like Deacon to help him survive.
The J Bar Ranch turned out to be a haven that not only saved Alfred Deacon's life, but also an entire crew of cowboys who would do anything for each other. When Ray shows up to find out about the father he believed dead for so many years, he discovers that things aren't always what they seem and friends aren't always what they claim, but his feelings for Ray outweigh everything.
I enjoyed this one thoroughly due mostly to the depth of emotional integrity given to not just one or two, but basically all of the characters in this story. With the close-nit group portraying a most unusual family unit , as well as the underlying subterfuge it becomes a most intriguing read. Add a little steamin' sex, subtle humor and it's a good all around read.
