MY FRIDAY FIND: The Zombie Survial Guide; Complete protection from the living dead!

This Friday, keeping in with my zombie theme from last week's Friday Find hosted by Mizb17 I discovered this:

Here's the product listing:

The Zombie Survival Guide is your key to survival against the hordes of undead who may be stalking you right now. Fully illustrated and exhaustively comprehensive, this book covers everything you need to know, including how to understand zombie physiology and behavior, the most effective defense tactics and weaponry, ways to outfit your home for a long siege, and how to survive and adapt in any territory or terrain.

Top 10 Lessons for Surviving a Zombie Attack

1. Organize before they rise!
2. They feel no fear, why should you?
3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
4. Blades don’t need reloading.
5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
9. No place is safe, only safer.
10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.

Don’t be carefree and foolish with your most precious asset—life. This book is your key to survival against the hordes of undead who may be stalking you right now without your even knowing it. The Zombie Survival Guide offers complete protection through trusted, proven tips for safeguarding yourself and your loved ones against the living dead. It is a book that can save your life.

I can't get enough zombie books, perhaps you may be able to recommend some to put on my TBR pile?

As you can see it certainly is another alternative read, and also that the book cover differs from above the USA version. (Click the link to see what I mean). It's often amazed me that book covers in other countries are completely different. Is that because a book cover, which sells in the UK wouldn't fit the American market? Or is there another reason for this? Pray do tell if you know the answer.

What did you find this Friday?

Sassy
:)

  6. I've heard of this book. It's imaginitive and entertaining. =)

About your question about different book covers, I happen to know the answer:

Different countries have different publishing companies, so when a given book is to be published in another country, the publisher in that country is allowed to have a different cover, or else they would have to buy the rights to that cover from the original publisher.

Say a book is popular -- Like Twilight or The Host -- there would be more sales if one keeps the original cover due to its popularity, but they would have to buy the rights to it. For other "less-popular" cases, the author and the publisher come to an agreement over how the cover looks (making their own cover without buying the rights to the original), although most of time, publishers and editors hold the ultimate power over what and how something gets published. I'd say an author would rather have their book published then fuss over how the cover looks.

It's true that Canada and the U.S. are different countries, yet the covers are the same. I believe that's because the book distributing company is North American. (It's relatively easy to cross the border anyway). Covers can look noticeably different if a given book is published in North America, the U.K., and Australia. Covers can also look different if that book is translated to another language, but the "rule of popularity" still applies.

I apologize if it sounds like a lecture. =/ I think I've give you more info then what you asked, but I hope this helps. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask. =)

  7. I read World War Z and didn't really like it, I've had people recommend The Zombie Survival Guide saying it's much better, so one of these days I'll probably pick this one up. You never know when Zombies are going to come, you might as well prepare now, eh? Great find.
