WRITING CONTESTS: A great way to get your foot in the door...

 

Here are the latest writing competitions I have found this week;

Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize Poetry. Prizes: $1,500 for first place. Closes 1st April 2010 Rider Haggard Society Short Story Comp. Fiction. Prizes: £200 for first place and society membership. Prize increases proportionally if more than 25 entries.For short stories up to 4,000 words that read as if being narrated to friends, on the disadvantages of discovering eternal life. Closes 20th March 2010 Running Bare Flash Fiction. Prizes: £20 for first place. Central character needs to find him/herself completely naked in a situation that calls for some quick action! Word count is 250 maximum plus the title. Two other competitions are also on this site. Closes 10th March 2010 LaunchPad Publishing 2010 Story Competition Nonfiction. Prizes: $0 for first place. Winners stories will be published in new book. SASSY NOTE: They say --  Once you have paid your nominal entry fee, you will be given the secret code to unlock the page with the rules and submission information -- this sounds a little odd to me, but I wanted to point it out.  Closes 20th March 2010 Frances Lincoln Diverse Voices Children’s Book Award  Children's Fiction: Prizes: £1,500 for first place. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony at Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books, at the beginning of June 2010. Closes: 26th February 2010  Creative Writing Life Flash Fiction: Prizes: £0 for first place, but published in Ezine. Looking for 150 word flashes with the theme/subject matter "Deceit Uncovered."  Closes:1st March 2010 Review Fuse Poetry Contest Poetry: Prizes: $100 Bonus: All participants will receive 3 peer critiques of their entry!  Closes: 18th February 2010   Please always check the details/rules on the individual websites before entering, or parting with any entry fee money (not all require them).   Happy Valentine's Day!
