To help create an alliance between two warring societies, Ethan has come to the compound where he has family- even if they don't know he exists. Being the half-brother of one of the Pure Born who have renounced their society for the Drones doesn't exactly make him automatically "in", especially since he is a warlock. But even more frustrating is that he finds himself attracted to one of the other vampires who just happens to hate everything to do with magic.

Because of a past betrayal by a witch that almost ended his existence, Zeke wants nothing to do with the realm of magic-until Ethan. But the warring emotions within him cause him to do something that leaves Ethan vulnerable to other vampires. When Ethan is captured by the enemy, Zeke will do whatever he must to get him back; unfortunately they have not only eviscerated his body, they have taken something irreplaceable. Will love be enough for them to survive or will it destroy what they could have?

This is possibly the most intense of the series to date and I must say it kept me turning pages. The author uses her ability to paint with words to create an engrossing read that made me keep turning pages to find out what happened next. The characters have become well defined and the emotional content runs the entire gamut from fear to fascination with a few side trips to horror and love.
