Declan could have said that he disliked photographs because he thought they trapped people; people couldn't move in a photograph, they were rooted to the spot, striking that one single pose for the rest of their lives, like a bush in the garden. Photographs gave people a false sense of understanding their pasts, of knowing how things were, how they themselves were.

ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting. I used to eat Tofu a fair bit - and was vegetarian for about 13 years, but it was so hard work. These days it's much easier.
I like that Alice - in fact the author, Evan Maloney did say more about photos - but alas I could only pick two sentences!
