Rich Taylor keeps his sexual orientation quiet more because it's
nobody's business, but his own than out of fear. Except when it comes to his best friend. He's always felt more than simple friendship for his fellow Deputy Sheriff buddy and when Dan's hurt in an accident, he's forced to admit how much he really feels.
Having done some pretty bad damage to his right hand, Dan Fletcher is forced to rely on his best friend Rich for help with a lot of mundane and some pretty intimate (who knew button-fly jeans were not a one-handed cakewalk?) things as well. Scarier though is his reaction to Rich's proximity while doing said things. Maybe he needs to re-think his gender search, but that's not going to happen in this small town.
I found this a poignant, haunting look at the struggles of two men. One to keep faith in the face of knowing his dreams are almost futile while the other must search his heart for his own truth. This was a story that kept me in it's grip simply to see how all the trials and tribulations were handled and I must say that the emotional impact was stunning in it's precision.
