REVIEWER RANT: Books Today

Review
As a voracious reader since childhood, I have read many different genres and have no favorites when it comes to specific genres. I do however have one main qualification to any book I read and it is one that has sadly become lacking in more and more of the books being put out for the people to read today-PLOT. Have we become a society that is so stressed out and needing of an escape that we are willing to grasp at poor or mediocre works of "literature" (and I use that term loosely) that provide nothing more than unrealistic sex with men who are not much more than "picture" boys (men who are only real in our imaginations) endowed with monstrous genitalia that in reality would do more damage than give pleasure? I read a LOT of books and so often it begins as a battle and ends in sex with little else in between. At least with authors such as Manly there is a realism that draws one into the life of the characters and no window dressing to "clean it up" and make it pretty to read.

Don't get me wrong; I love my weres and Vamps, but even here I like a bit of realism mixed in with my fantasy.... in other words their struggle for life just as we struggle for life makes for a much more interesting read than simply so many odd pages of hot sex- even paras have to get tired once in awhile, don't they?

Claire Thompson has a marvelous series about second chances, but even there it's not all tea and roses and happily ever after, but a struggle to get through and forgive and go forward-in other words-life. I want an author to draw me in and make me live the book as it happens and there are many authors who are good at that-Hecht, Llewellyn, Krylov, D'Arc, Moss, and too many more to name.

The point is why do we settle for less than good when there is better out there and at the same reasonable price?I know this will probably tick off a lot of people, but as far as I know I'm still entitled to voice an opinion and as long as I'm paying out my hard-earned money for a book (be it print, ebook or whatever) I want it to be something I want to read and then read it again as well as recommend it to my friends. I don't want to read about people who only "sex it up" from page 1 to the end without there being any kind of intelligent conversation, reason for living, job, life....well I'm sure you get the point. And I want to read about REAL women, those who aren't perfect in form, who have what society consider flaws, but those gorgeous men consider (gag me, here) worthy. And, oh yeah....what I consider gorgeous male, you may consider ugly as sin. Okay, done with my rant.
