Arianne is looking forward with great anticipation to the exploratory voyage she's about to embark on and the only thing that can possibly mess it up is the incessant flirting of one of her team. After all, truly romantic men only exist in the pages of those crazy books.
Darrel has it bad for Arianne, but can't convince her that it's for real. Even when they finally become lovers, he's sure it's only because she thinks they may not survive what's in the future and not because of any real belief in how he feels about her.
In a tale told from a perspective few recognize but many can relate to, Ms. Bern has taken the many layers of a woman, added the layers of a determined man, thrown in a tricky situation and given a short but interesting read that made me go "I know this woman" and "where can I find this man". With a dash of hot sex and a sprinkle of humor this piquant tale is a keeper.
