It's 1576 and though Caprice has both money and the time to spend it, the most happening thing in her life is her painting and writing (well, other than the twins, that is). Enter then Philippe-Auguste, who adds her as his conquest, upsetting the Visconti mightily. She just has to make them all learn to get along.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon your perception), the Frenchman is a vampire, who has decided all three of the lovers will be his. Just as things are beginning to settle down, The Black Plague makes entry and Venice quakes in fear as death runs rampant. It's Caprice who awakens in a mass grave with the "diggers" trying to shove a brick in her throat- their cure for vampirism in the good old days.
This is a bit different from what I really expected, but I must say it was an experience. The history of the plague, the times and the people all combine to make this an interesting foray into the "darkness". One dominant woman, three intense men and an era when people had much more license than later eras. Now they just need to get the second out so I can continue to be entertained by these two talented writers.
