Manara who is ishtaristu, Mukarramma, one of the ancient Sumerian race. Raised to complete one task; restore her Temple and save her people. Matthew is a vital part of it, but how to teach a man molded by pain and terror to believe in her "gifts"? She can only hope that they can destroy the evil before it manages to escape and destroy not only her people, but also create more chaos than man has seen in eons.
Matthew Raleigh is a mercenary who was trained in terror as a teen by a woman who destroyed all his emotions; all that is except his fear of those who practice blood rituals. His fear drives him to resist Manara's explanations as to his part in this expedition to save her people. He does know that he will do what he must to save the woman he loves, whatever that is.
Secret organizations of blood drinkers, demons, ghouls, people coming back from the dead and plot twists enough to keep me happy as a loon. I found this a totally absorbing read and enjoyed the many faces of the young woman coming into her own. I also liked the fact that the tough guy could admit he was scared of losing her. Good for you, Miss Mitchell in pointing out the different kinds of purity. Kudos.
