she had not met yet to try to talk to her. He arranged it so he was able to listen in.

Keeping things from the one you love in this situation cause an unnecessary situation involving all those who were invited to the happy event. Could it have been avoided with communication? Maybe, but then we would not have been privy to their making up. But the way they made up is definitely worth reading.
