Duking Days: Rebellion is an intricate piece of historical fiction concerning the year 1685, and the battle for the throne that engulfed the time period. James Scott, the illegitimate son of King Charles II is seeking to wrest the British crown from his uncle, the crowned James II. The result was the now famous battle, which is the backdrop for the story. The novel concerns the Woulfe family, and in particular Helena Woulfe, whose point of view frames the events that take place.

I am by no means a historian, so I have no way of judging whether the historical information presented and used in the novel is valid. I will say, however, that the intricacy of detail employed in characterization and custom is quite impressive. Ms. Davison appears to know her subject, and it shows.

Overall, Duking Days: Rebellion is quite an entertaining book. I recommend it to historians, historical re-enactors, and lovers of historical fiction. I found a few grammatical errors in my version, but that may have been due to it being an ARC. Nevertheless, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
