Marianna is trying to find herself in life after the death of her Grandfather. In her last year of high school there are so many decisions about her future that she must make and her mentor is gone. Her father had left before she turned one, and her step-father has now left as well. Her mother is a painter and is often engrossed in her work, so Marianne has had to live her on life depending on her Grandpa for love. As she plans for college she tries to find out who she is and what her Grandpa would want for her. In the mean time she finds a friend, not the good kind in the long run. He hooks her on Heroin and gets her a job serving drinks in a bar, even as a minor. Subsequent events lead to her ultimately being alone again and with the drugs she overdosed. Only luck of someone passing in the night was she saved. Then came the long road to recovery.

Extremely sad, very tragic. A waste of a young life with so much potential. It does make many points however about how we create tragedy in our own lives looking for love and acceptance from those we love, and not finding it we look elsewhere. The story was long and seemed so depressing it was difficult to read.
