What's on our Author in the Spotlight's Desk, Wednesday? (WOYDW)

For WOYDW this week I am pleased to welcome our spotlight author,

And here's the doll in case you were all wondering LOL  I thought she was tiny and covered in papers...

I’ve been coveting this Kit Kittredge doll since my niece started collecting them years ago.  Kit is a Depression era girl who always wanted to be a writer.  She can come with a rolltop desk, a camera ensemble complete with a tiny box of Kodak film, and best of all, a typewriter.  I never had many toys as a kid, so I figured now I’m old enough to have my own doll, dammit!

Then I wondered where she should sit, since she doesn’t have her rolltop desk yet, and her typewriter is sold out.  Well, since she’s a fellow writer, it was perfect to put her on my desk, so she can get some experience.  She can even give me advice. She’s probably wondering what the big mess is all about, why so many stickie notes on the monitor, and why she is sitting on top of a Frank Zappa CD.

Karen has written three historical fiction novels set in precolonial Africa.  Her first erotic historical romance, Working the Lode, has just been released from Siren Publishing.  It’s set in the 1848 California Gold Rush.

Going to California.  It’s three thousand miles nearer to hell.

Mountain man Cormack Bowmaker meets up with Zelnora Sparks on the eve of California’s great rush—the discovery of gold.    Zelnora is fleeing from her mentor, the mighty businessman Brannagh.  They are being shadowed by the most scandalous Spanish bandit in the frontier.  Joaquin Valenzuela wants to rob them of their gold, but soon discovers a desire for much more.  Californians call for the pickled head of Valenzuela in a jar, but his passion for the two Americans overpowers his zeal for mayhem.

They band together in their quest for riches, love, and the good life.  Bowmaker is a sharpshooter, his aim true.  Valenzuela will slit the throat of anyone who wanders by.  Zelnora knows where to find the gold.  And Brannagh will do everything it takes to stop them.

They are about to discover the frontier—within themselves.
