Military Organization Honors Author for Poetry

Glendale, CA -- The Military Writers Society of America gave their Silver Award for Excellence to Carolyn Howard-Johnson's chapbook of poetry, Tracings.



The slim volume published by Finishing Line Press includes some poems inspired by memories of her uncle leaving for WWII, memories of watching her grandson graduate from boot camp and go off to Iraq, and her visits to European war memorials.

The MWSA, http://militarywriters.com/awards.htm, an organization of writers who write about the military or have a connection with the military, also gave their review of Tracings five stars.

Howard-Johnson is the author of the acclaimed novel This is the Place and of a collection of creative nonfiction, Harkening as well as Tracings. All explore the corrosive nature of intolerance. She is also the author of USA Book News' Best Professional Book 2004, The Frugal Book Promoter: How to Do What Your Publisher Won't. That book is also the winner of the Book Publicists of Southern California's Irwin award.

Howard-Johnson has been honored by members of the California Legislature with Woman of the Year in Arts and Entertainment, by her community with a Character and Ethics Award for her efforts to promote tolerance and by the Pasadena Weekly for women of achievement.
