What can go wrong and how will your surgeon fix it? When is surgery unnecessary? What are your chances of full recovery?
Johannes Schokker was born and educated in the Netherlands. He studied geodetic engineering and, in 1956, went to Saudi Arabia where he worked as a civil engineer. In 1960, he studied for two years at Hope College, Holland and at the University of California in Berkeley to prepare himself for medical school. At age 30 he was accepted at the Medical School of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI where he was one of the oldest members of his class.
"Joop" graduated as an MD in 1966, and spent the next five years in surgical internship and residency at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, MO. By July 1970, he was chief resident.
In July 1971, he started a solo practice in surgery in Jefferson City, MO, and in July 2000, he started his current position as general and trauma surgeon at the Level 2 trauma center of the Altoona Regional Health System.
