Unsure if it's the tattoos or the way Kyle fills out his t-shirt and jeans, all Tamra McMillan cares is that she feels safe within his sight and if that keeps the demons at bay, so much the better. What she hadn't counted on was the fact that every look, touch and kiss ensured she never wanted him to let her go. Then she finds out that sometimes what you think can't be real is all too real and confusion is not the only thing she has to rid her mind of.
The last thing a loner ,who's also a werewolf, who's also an assassin for the king needs to find out is that he has found his mate. Even worse his mate is not of the wolf persuasion, but fully human, which is not going to go over very well with the rest of his community. Then he finds that there is someone sending people to kidnap Tamra and the need to protect rises to the fore and everybody better stay out of his way.
Every time I think there can't possibly be any kind of new twist for the shifter "descent" into man's world, somebody manages to find a new way for them to have gotten here. I like the creative ingenuity of those individuals. With a few deft strokes of her pen, Stephanie Julian has created a world where things that go bump in the night aren't always bad, change isn't always terrible and sometimes being human can be a good thing. There is warmth, humor, depth, wisdom and a strength in her characters that make this a well-rounded read that I finished in one sitting. Oh, yeah, the smoking sex didn't hurt either.
