PRODUCT REVIEW: Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Console (250GB Model) with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)

Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Console (250GB Model) with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)

Best (although expensive) Entertainment Investment so far...

This is easy to set up and has so many features. The slim model not only looks good, but it is smaller, lighter and for the environmentally aware gamer it's less power consuming than the original PS3 models. I love the online features where joining up with other gamers is easy and such a lot of fun!

It can play or view these file formats ATRAC, MP3, AAC, JPEG, MPEG-4, but incredibly it cannot read PS2 formats. You can, however, create an internal memory for this older software but it won't allow you to play them! So, don't bother trying! Of course, this feature is compatible for saving data in all PS3 formats. And back up is essential! Which is why I went for the 250gb hard disc drive model - a huge amount of storage useful for both the gaming and Internet downloading aspects.

The pitfalls? Nearly everything you need to get started is included, but (and this is a big but) you only get the minimum - all the good stuff (headset, keypad, remote control etc) comes separately and at an additional expense, which is such a shame and a tad unfair.

Despite this, I do believe this model gives the ultimate gaming experience. It has 2 x USB ports, a HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, Scart out, Ethernet and Optical Digital Audio out and one super cool Bluetooth (2.0) cable free controller. The cable is included should the battery wear down, and all you need to do is pause the game and plug the cable into the USB port to continue playing and recharge at the same time. Incidentally, I already had Broadband wireless Internet so no Ethernet cable was required. This also means that with Sony's new technology the Internet

Plus there are so many other things you can do; play Blu-Ray, DVD and music discs, text and video messaging (Yes, you can chat to friends while playing!), browse the internet, watch BBC iPlayer programmes, YouTube, view digital photos and (of course let me repeat) multi-player online gaming. On some games you can even access Twitter!)

For those of you with kids there are BD (with BD Live support), DVD and Internet browser parental controls, so you can easily have 18+ games in the house, but the set will be restricted.

Favourite game so far? Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3), which came with it in this bundle. But that's another review!

**Incidentally it is currently unavailable at Amazon, but can still be found as a bundle at other places.
