The AR 1001 Books to Read (and review) Before You Die Challenge | With PRIZES!

The Alternative-Read.com 1001 Books to Read (and review) Before You Die Challenge!

This started out as my own personal challenge, but I thought hey, why not open this up for all to join in as a perpetual challenge that will last until, er, the day you die? But lets not get all morbid and refresh our memories of my original post, which started all this and the complete listing of all the books recommended.

I don't like rules, but we have to have some so everyone is on the same page:
  1. Express your interest in joining this perpetual challenge by commenting on this page.
  2. Grab the above logo and stick it on your site and link back here: http://tjbook-list.blogspot.com
  3. Overlaps with other challenges are fine, as are books in any format -- eBook, print, audio etc.
  4. If you don't want to spend three years writing out the list like I did, you may copy my post or link back to the original 1001 books listing, for reference. (See link in #6).
  5. READ and REVIEW each book. Review can be as small or detailed as you like. Even if just says, "I could not get into this book!"
  6. When you review please come back to leave your link* in the original 1001 books listing. Please also add which edition your reviewed book comes from, as I may, or may not, have it in the original list.
  7. Reading the book before the date of this challenge's official opening (Friday 16th October 2009) is fine, but all reviews must be posted and published on or after this date.
  8. Did I mention there will be RANDOM PRIZES for those taking this seriously, sticking to the rules, and not reviewing every book as "I could not get into this book!" ??? Stay tuned!
  9. Although this blog is a group blog, and any reviewer can take part, I will not be awarding prizes to either staff, or other groups doing this as a joint effort. This must be a personal challenge with your own reviews posted to your own blog.
  10. Just go with the flow. After all, you only live once...
  11. **
N.B. Please be aware that each year this book is updated, which means some books will be removed from the list and others will replace it. Do what ever you feel best. Stick to your own original listing, or keep adding the additional books that come out with each new edition. I'm really not fussed, and with the amount of books on this list, I don't think you will be either.

*Also, if there is a link on my original 1001 books listing that says "Link your review here" this means that this title has its own page on which you can leave your own link to your review in the comments section for that single title.

**Any additions to these rules, which may help to iron out a few creases, will be added to this page.

  1. I think I'm going to do this. Sounds like a very fun challenge. Hopefully i'll post this weekend, if I get the strength!

  2. Sounds like a great idea. For me though, it's too much of a challenge. I can't be that organized as I like "chaos" and randomness when it comes to choosing books. You've got a good thing going, tho.
