Teaser Tuesday, a blog meme hosted by MizB on Should Be Reading.
Grab your current read. Let the book fall open to a random page. Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page. (Slightly longer than a couple of sentences!)
Vesuvial moments. All women have them. I'm talking about these moments when you want to shove your kids back in the condom vending machine for a refund - no matter how much you love them. Or the times you want to use your husband's testicles as maracas.

My review of this book:
When to comes to her marriage, her kids, and basically her whole life, round, sturdy and mousy-haired Katie does everything to keep her head above water, including finding time to escape to the bath and talk to the taps. And believe me, she needs that "selfish time" to keep sane.
It would seem everyone is out to get her, but she is determined to do what is right, and stand by the man she married because she loves him. Pure and simple. The trouble, however, is not just with him, but her perfect-bodied, blonde, high-flying bitch of a stepsister, Celestia. Not to mention a few other characters that should know better.
This novella is water resistant, so like Katie takes "me time" to talk to the taps, you can do the same, but with a book that can't be ruined by the bath water. All Steamed Up is a comedic take on all those "vesuvial" moments in a woman's life, from marriage, pregnancy, raising kids, divorce and everything in between. It's hilarious, and a huge amount of fun to read. Partly because of the gimmicky waterproof book, but mainly because Kathy Lette is such a good writer. I really felt for her character, Katie, and at times wanted to shake some sense into her. Other times the cunning and conniving Celestia really made my blood boil with anger. I wanted to throttle her! Oh, such fun!
The idea behind this mini-novella, (it is only 38 pages long), is that Kathy Lette has written this novella for stressed women everywhere and she is trying to persuade UK women to take time out. It is part of the Radox ‘Be Selfish’ campaign, and you have a chance to win one of 10,000 copies and a Radox bath product RIGHT HERE!
The story has been specially written in four parts, so that if a full on soak is not achievable the plot can be picked up at a later ‘selfish’ date. I loved this gimmicky idea, and after receiving my book yesterday, I booked myself into the bath, added some Radox, and talked to the taps. :)

Thanks for visiting my blog. A waterproof book is a great idea, not for me, I don't read in the bath, never stay in long enough! But I know a lot of people, especially women, do.
ReplyDeleteFantastic teaser. The books sounds as though it is a riot.

LOL - had to laugh at that teaser. Glad to admit that I haven't hit that stage yet, but our son is only 2 1/2, and we have the second boy on the way. . . Maybe in a few years I'll be able to relate a little more. :) Great for a laugh though - thanks for sharing.
