Simone walked around the bed and stopped in front of him. "I want to thank you for holding up your end of the bargain we made as children. You've been here for me tonight. I don't know how I can ever repay you."

Beau placed his hand against her cheek. He loved the feel of her skin beneath his palm. "Simone, I'll always be here for you whenever you need me."

She gave him a shaky smile. "Thank you, Beau. Good night." She raised her mouth to his cheek and kissed him. Turning, she walked through the bathroom door and closed it silently after her.

He stood for a few minutes, hoping she'd come back through the door. What would he do if she did? Would he be able to let her sleep alone or would he ask her to stay the night with him?

He sat on the edge of the bed and toed off his sneakers. God, he was tired. How had things gotten so messed up so quickly? When he agreed to this job, he'd been told it was just a normal undercover investigation and nothing could possibly go wrong. Yeah, and pigs could fly.
