What does a dedicated cop do when he is told about child abuse at an institution for young juveniles? If he's as familiar with the type of abuse as Gian is, he pesters his Captain, who just happens to be his adopted dad as well, to help him get an undercover assignment set up there so he can get the evidence they need to put the slime responsible away. After all, these kids aren't as lucky as Gian had been to be rescued from their abuse and then loved as one of the family.
Eighteen, awaiting a place at a transition house and a fave of the abusive guards, Cory does everything he can to protect the younger boys being exposed to the nastier side of institutional life at Beaconsfield. Having come from the rougher side of life, he's learned survival in the harsher environs, but even he has trouble at times. Afraid to tell anyone what really happens, all he can do is endure.
Welcome to Beaconsfield is a down and dirty, gritty, real-life look at a part of life that often gets ignored. I found it completely enthralling as it explored the aspects of their lives from before Beaconsfield to after, including the loves, confusion, fears, leaving out nothing, no sugar coating, just a realistic picture of everyday living. I'm a greedy person, though, and would have liked to have seen it taken further, although the ending is all I could wish. I must say that some of the instances of sex were quite raw and some might find them offensive, but were critical to the story while others were simply erotic. This was, all in all, a stunning read.
