Janarnavriel the Noir is Mirry's best friend who was killed at the same time Mirry was hurt. Now his death must be avenged and his body returned home for burial. So there are many busy days ahead for Mirry as he teaches Fledge to read and write, brings Jan's body home and trains his story witch in the arts of love.
People with feathers and tails, monsters, demons, and sex hot enough to turn sand into glass. This second instalment of the Phoenix series brings all new characters while keeping reference to some of those in the first, but apparently it's the religious ties to Lufra that make it whole. The realism of the relationships with all their flaws give this book it's real strength. I'm enjoying this immensely.
