If you saw Nick O'Malley in his favourite form of dress you'd never believe he was an agent of the Nevada Gaming Commission. Goth dress, waist length raven hair and driving a hearse is not the norm for an agent. Neither is finding a strictly in the closet cop afraid to let anyone know he's gay. Now an ex-employee is murdered and Nick is their number one suspect; until the evidence points to possible Mafia connections.
Working Vice gives Brandon Carr a chance to blend his tattoos, clothes, and Harley into the territory he investigates. He keeps his sexuality hidden deep where no one on the force has a hint of who he truly is for fear of it costing him the job he loves. Then "Nicky" stumbles into his vicinity and has him standing on his head. No one has befuddled him this much before. The habit of hiding is ingrained too deep until the time comes when he may lose Nicky forever
and the choice of lover or "closet" must be made.
I must say that I found this probably a more gritty look at the life of the gay male in certain work fields. Sad, but true. I liked the fact that the emotions of both men were explored, the sex and light bondage were extremely sensual and there were enough sub-characters such as Mexican Mafia to make the plot continually interesting without those "slow" patches. But, (and maybe this is because I'm female and don't quite grasp some man-thing) I was a bit confused as to why I was left to ponder the fact that though Brandon has come to somewhat accept the relationship per se; the story stops there. Here's hoping for a possible sequel. This is still a good read that grips from the first page.
About the Author: Hola, I'm James Buchanan, a multipublished author of, primarily, homoerotic romance & fiction. Life wise, I grew up in a small Texas town, hours away from any other small Texas town and about as far west as you could go and still be considered in Texas. A stint at the University, where I ostensibly majored in English, garnered me a degree useful for being someone's secretary. The absolute lack of employment opportunities sent me to Southern California. After a stint in County Mental Health (administration not client) I ran
screaming into the field of Law. So far I have been practicing for nine years and someday I might even get it right.
