Dorand is of Amiantos coven and a deathspeaker who came upon Aleeza after her just having broken the Gunera chastity curse. A "ground" for power he was clan mate to one of the murder victims. He has the ability to calm or control the power of others. One of the two who knows her secret and helps her in the investigation.
Ferrin, not of the Amiantos, but raised as one is also a deathspeaker and second clan mate of the murder victim. He can mimic the magic of anyone he meets. There is a darkness residing inside which literally speaks to him. He is drawn to Aleeza in a manner which is dangerous to all three of them for both men are in love with her.
Breaking a two thousand year old chastity curse, finding yourself in love with two men who had been "brothers"in a former triumvirate, and learning you and one of those men had been set up by demons to start your very own new and improved coven would be enough to make most girls take a vacation. Not Aleeza. Each new thing she discovers- about Ferrin, the demons and the only other witch to break the spell simply adds to her determination to win. This book was for me a totally intoxicating read full of power plays, demons, great sex (although the incestuous rape was a bit tough for me), witches and more. It took my interest on the first page and still had it on the last. It's one I'll recommend to my friends. Good reading.
