Instead of the usual man bites woman, etcetera; we're treated to
the tender portrayal of Annie Wycliffe, a "sensitive" woman with a gift she uses through the Tarot to help people, who saves and is in turn saved by sexy French vampire "Etienne". She has become a gypsy trying to outrun not only a nasty "step-dad", but what she fears may be incarceration.
Instead of a cold, indifferent, creature that preys on people we're given Etienne, a haunted, guilt-ridden, 500 going on 5 (for those of you with long time partners you know what I mean) vampire whose plans on "meeting the dawn" are drastically changed when he is drawn to this
seemingly fragile, gifted woman trying to outrun a past that won't let her get away.
Throw in some incredible written sex scenes, a cool medium named Velia, and a deviously evil into the mix and you have a sweet read that grabs you on the first page and holds on to you throughout to the end. The sex scenes are hot, explicit, (did I mention hot?) and so
well written they are not offensive. In fact, they made this reader wonder "hmmm, maybe I..."
Author Mackenzie McKade has produced a classic fantasy of man protecting a woman he loves, with a delightful twist. Dead Awakening would make a great ADULT "read together" book for couples of all ages (over 18, that is), but that means it's going to take twice as long to read as you know you're going to have to stop and try it all out. Well, good reading and great fun to all of you.
