Reborn again as his lifetime mate, Helen was not at all as he expected her to be. Before she had always known who she was and was ready to continue their life but this time she wanted nothing to do with him and tried not only to thwart him at every turn she was determined to kill him. Not that was really possible for Watchers were extremely hard to kill and it must be done for the brief moment during sex that they were in their most corporal form.

Bale Ammadon would have to mate with her because that is where his power came from, however, he wanted a willing mate not a fight on his hands. He knew her previous death, and the violent rape and assault that she had blocked from her mind was part of the issue in rebellion. He tries desperately to woo her into a relationship of care that he has had with her before, but he is only so patient.

For a paranormal it is really a rather normal kind of story line. Hurt from past violence and betrayal Helen is loath to open herself up to the feeling she has, even though she wants to love on some level. Bale was also feeling betrayal on a smaller level and was cautious in his pursuit of her. Every relationship hinges on trust and eventually that is what will have to occur in this situation as well. Can they find a way to bridge their distrust and find their way?
