HAPPY BIRTHDAY Isaac Asimov! What is your favourite Asimov story or quote?

I'd like to share some supportive, inspirational and thought provoking quotes by Isaac Asimov, since it would have been his birthday today. He was born January 2, 1920 although according to Wiki his birthday might have been as early as October 4, 1919  He died April 6, 1992.

What is your favourite Asimov story or inspirational quote?  I have to say I, Robot really does it for me. The quotes I like are below.

Isaac Asimov was, in my opinion, a brilliant science fiction writer and scholar from the US (although Russian born). He wrote a short story collection, "I, Robot" 1950, novels "Foundation" 1951, "Foundation and Empire" 1952, "Second Foundation" 1953, "The Gods Themselves" 1972. You must keep sending work out; you must never let a manuscript do nothing but eat its head off in a drawer. You send that work out again and again, while you're working on another one. If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success - but only if you persist.
Another favourite of mine is...
I write for the same reason I breathe - because if I didn't, I would die.

Then there's...
Never let your sense of morals get in the way of doing what's right.
Thought provoking...

If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.

I think my favorite is "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

I Loved "Caves of Steel" and how he entwined that story with the Foundation series (Remember the thread that began with the guys who asked the most powerful computer ever designed to calculate the answer to the most important question ever asked?).

I don't have a favourite quote from Asimov (an interesting story? Yes.), but I have always remembered those who treated him as an upstart Russian immigrant who was also a hack. Both Asimov and Stephen King wore that title--HACK!--for many years. Look at their accomplishments. Try to find any historical mention of those stupid, pompous twits who proclaimed such things in the first place.

If you think my last statement is too harsh, too vulgar, then go to the following URL and scroll down the never ending page that lists Isaac Asimov's writing credits. His body of work is mind-staggering; his diversity is impressive and his stories are such pleasant memories. http://www.asimovonline.com/oldsite/asimov_catalogue.html

  4. I, Robot is a surprisingly short read, considering a whole film was based around it. I loved the film. Did you?

  6. Thank you for the link, Clayton! @ClaytonBye Yes, it just goes to show you how much snobbery there is around. Some people still do not consider science fiction as a proper genre to take seriously enough when it comes to certain 'awards'.
