Andrew, being the "good boy" he is, does as his mom asks and takes a young woman from their church to the circus when it's in town. As he fears, the one thing she wants to see is something he wants to avoid- the freak show.

While the young woman finds them merely exciting "curiosities", the plight of the dog boys and limbless creatures is something that tears at Andrew. But when they reach the cage at the end and that big, black jaguar turns into a man right in front of them, Andrew knows that life as he knew it is no more.

I don't know if the scene stealing by the subs in this story was intentional or not, but the humor created by Darla and Jojo at times completely overshadowed the main characters and "stole the show". While not something I'm used to reading from Mr. Manly, it was a quick, fun, enjoyable read.
